I've Never Felt So Bad For Angelica Pickles...
Переглядів 36 тис.11 годин тому
Angelica Pickles is a character that I've always felt mixed about. I mean, she's always been portrayed as the bad guy. It's hard to not have some sort of dislike for her. With that being said though, there were always times when she was portrayed in more of a gentle light. They may have been few and far between, but when they did happen, they usually came with a bit of a softening to our percep...

CatDog is a show that holds a special place in my childhood memories and it always will. Rocko Tried To Warn Us A LONG Time Ago...

Rocko's Modern Life was a Nicktoon that was never really afraid to go where others wouldn't. It would push the boundaries of what a cartoon could portray. Mostly, that would be in the form of innuendos and adult jokes that would fly over the head of the show's young audience. However, they also weren't afraid to poke at real world issues. These kinds of references are important in my opinion......

Rugrats is a show that walked a really fine line when it came to dark topics. Like, they would tackle them without a doubt, but they did it in a way that really kept their core audience in mind. It was never really shocking by any means, but when you put the events under a microscope, they tend to get more and more shocking... Analyzing As Told By Ginger... (Part 1)

Looking back on As Told By Ginger, it's easy to recognize that it was a show with a lot of substance. It was one that really came out at a perfect time, and was directed at just the right audience. It's a cartoon that would focus on the struggles of being a kid going through a lot of emotional changes while facing the dramatic waters of junior high school. It would be a show that would touch on...

He's a dad who's so dedicated to his family, that he would put his life on the line on multiple occasions. Today, on our nostalgic walk down...

Doug is a show that honestly, wasn't all too controversial or dark. Sure, it may have tackled some issues that it's audience may have faced in real life, however, the show did a great job of keeping in mind who that audience is... At it's heart, Doug is a kids show. With that, comes with the territory of wanting to teach valuable life lessons in a usually more light-hearted way. However, on tod...

There aren't a lot of Nicktoons that made an attempt at keeping an overarching story active while maintaining continuity... Lets just be honest. Whereas many adult shows rely heavily on this, in the world of kids cartoons it seems as if that concept has been deemed pointless. However, Danny Phantom felt like the one Nicktoon that not only attempted to keep up that overarching story, but also di...

I’d love to see Rocket Power come back but with them all grown up. Maybe could have a callback to this episode where Otto as an adult became a famous athlete (surfer, skater, etc) and finally is able to take on these types of waves. And maybe has a kid of his own who wants to do the same 😅 then realizes the position he put his dad in back then. Idk, probably will never happen but I’d love to see it hah especially them all as adults 😊👍

I love these videos because SpongeBob is a show that can be interpreted in many ways due to the amazing writing of each episode. Especially season 1, where I feel like the creators had many amazing ideas. Episodes such as the paper explore philosophical dilemmas and Shawn states his opinions and interpretations on the ideas. These ideas sometimes conflict with mine and that makes it interesting. Thanks ducktilshawn!

Its okay guys, I actually lived your worst fear. I woke up one morning, panicked because it was Tuesday and I was an hour late for my communications class. I was half dressed when I stopped, and thought about it, and remembered I hadn't been to that class in a year. And then I realized, I literally forgot to go back to class. I dropped out of college because I ditched like 2 days, and then /out of sight out of mind/ became too real, just forgot about it. (Community college. And I'm now enrolling to go back...all the way this time.)

8:25 Lmao I know it’s just a cartoon. But how on earth did Chucky know about a seedy prison & what was essentially an execution stand (or an electric chair)? 😅 (know enough to have a dream about it I mean) lol even got to speak to a priest/monk for his last rights! (being Tommy, as he was dressed as one) Edit; Also Angelica was even wearing an executioner’s hood ffs 😂 while wielding a plunger as if it was an axe/broad sword. While Phil & Lil were dressed as cops/correctional officers/security.

So again; how did a 2 year old know about ANY of that? Hah maybe he accidentally saw a movie scene about this stuff that the adults were watching? Cause we’ve already seen an episode where Tommy’s grandpa came home with rented tapes for the babies & one for himself that was heavily implied to be p0rn x) - He tells the babies “I rented you babies a Reptar movie. And I got my favorite tape ‘Lonely Space Vixens’ but that’s for me to watch after you’re all put to bed” lmao (Mentioning that as a way to say that the babies have seen random stuff meant for adults without knowing it)

Angelica is one of those “mean girl” characters that are not officially in the mean girl group is always fascinating to me. Angelica could’ve easily become Savanna or worst than Savanna. As for the school hierarchy, idk I can see it be that way though I realize seniority might not be as important in US schools than it is outside of it. Usually there’s popular kids for each grades, so if Savanna is a grade above Angelica that’s understandable but if they’re in the same grade yeah its kind of odd

I think Savannah (but more like the writers) were implying that Angelica *badly needs* someone to teach her a lesson in humility before she goes down the path of being selfish as Savannah unwittingly is. Also perhaps Savannah was similarly stuck-up to Angelica and this is an example of what she could have become if she continues to get her way.

Rewatching the episode, the part with Chuckie just sitting there on his potty for a while actually took 2 whole hours (2 o clock to 4 o clock). I'm no child psychologist, but the whole idea of a child just having to sit there until something happens not only takes time away from the child's day, but it also doesn't help them understand it or think that it's a good thing. If anything, it'll just make them more resilient to use it because they know they'd have to sit there for a long time (even longer in kid time).

I hated Angelica as a kid, but as an adult, I'm like, wait... every adult in her life thinks it's ok to just leave her unsupervised in a room full of babies. Let's set the parentification vibes aside for a minute and think about that: she's several years older, she knows more, she can do more, and she's stuck playing with people who can't possibly relate to her interests. I think I'd lash out and be bratty if I was four and that happened to me nearly every day.

    • @NotWhatIamMadeFor

I think the root of Angelica's problems are that she does not feel loved or cared for. Think about it. As a preteen she thinks she is going to be happy and accepted and thats all she wants. But, think about how she grew up. She had a mom who couldn't put her phone down and talk to her own daughter and a father who just give into her and give her, her own way all the time basically so that she wouldn't whine or bother him. She really had absent parents. Daddy could have bought her any toy she wanted but, that wasn't going to buy her what she needed from the start. She needed family that was going to give her attention and care enough to teach her to act right. Mom was absent and dad just gave her toys and things. Neither of them gave her time and that's what a kid needs most.

Outside of a few early OG rugrats episodes, I dont think Ive ever seen Angelica be like genuinely evil 🤔 She was pretty mean but usually did get her comeuppance at the end of the segment and rival toddlers like Timmy usually had Angelica getting a taste of her own medicine in the past. Angelica, especially as the show went on... was still a bully but usually in a like "teasing gone too far" kinda way, I guess? I dont have a lot of memories of Angelica publicly humiliating anyone to set a pecking order; she just generally insulted and talked down to people, but was mostly concerned with having a "loyal crew" that didnt try to turn the tables rather than asserting a hierarchical aura outward that needed to be respected by even outsiders. Like, Timmy could give her grief but so long as her crew could out compete his crew, thats all that mattered. Savannah tho... the only way to out-mean Angelica who's sorta been this bar since the shows inception was to make someone who had no limits because Angelica surprisingly had lines she wouldnt cross. Savannah has far less scruples and is bar none a manipulative power-tripper who is very intentionally trying to put people "in their place". Like the instant someone has the character trait of "likes putting people in their place"... its pretty much a done deal😬Youve got a real piece of work there On a side note, I hear you grapple with the thought in a few videos, the conflicted emotions of characters like Angelica or Lars getting whats coming to them and it being deserved or not and I think its not only just a very empathetic adult perspective but also a like... progressive communal perspective too. Like we live in a society (assuming American, or anything that was touched by the British Empire) that lauds punitive retribution; our society WANTS to punish people more than it wants to understand and rehabilitate them. So I think it ends up being a really confusing feeling to have at some point where you innately figure out that "negative punishment" is a very ineffective reinforcement and teaching tool. The science confirming that is also shockingly new and the older generations that made OUR cartoons wouldnt have even had public figures trying to speak on it. We grew up on cartoons that served us "satisfying comeuppance", created by adults from a different time, but we became the content creating adults in a society that has learned that is scientifically proven to not be how people work. So your conflicted feelings are just a sign of (I want to saay..) humanity and wisdom. Youve noticed the changes and learned the differences; youre inclined to empathy and compassion instead of law and order (which honestly ties back nicely I think to the differences between Angelica and Savannah lol) and like, Im happy youre a dad; you sound like a really nice dad!

Angelica reminds me of Helga, in a lot of ways! Both are sympathetic bullies who aren't sadistic humanless bastards and act like actual normal people, unlike most bullies in other cartoons from the 90s and 2000s.
